Questions, answered plainly
Everything you'd ask before opening a Nook.
No sales call required. If something isn't covered here, email hello@trynook.ai and a real person replies — usually the same day.
Pricing & trial
How much does Nook cost?
One plan with every feature, priced per location and billed monthly — see pricing. No contracts, no setup or migration fees, no rented desk phones. Card processing runs through Stripe at their standard rates, and that's the whole bill.
Is there a free trial?
Yes. Every new Nook starts with a 14-day free trial with everything switched on — booking page, texting, payments, reviews, the lot. You don't need a card to start. When the trial ends you subscribe from Settings → Billing, or simply walk away.
Can I cancel any time?
Any month, from your own dashboard, no phone call and no "retention specialist". Your booking page and inbox keep working until the end of the period you've paid for, and you can export everything first.
Is texting really unlimited?
Two-way conversations with your clients are unlimited — we never ration your regulars. Automated texts (reminders, review asks, waitlist offers) come with a generous monthly allowance that a single location won't hit in normal use; if you're the exception, we'll raise it rather than surprise you with a bill.
What about multiple locations?
Each location is its own Nook with its own number, calendar and inbox, priced per location. Owners can group locations into an organization to see a roll-up and hop between them from one login.
Your number & texting
Can I keep my existing business number?
Yes. Port your existing landline or mobile business line into Nook for free, or pick a new local number in minutes. Either way, texts and calls to that number land in one shared inbox your whole team can see, and you can text and call from it on any device.
How long does porting take?
Typically a few business days for a mobile number and one to two weeks for a landline, depending on your current carrier. Your old line keeps working until the switch flips. We handle the paperwork and tell you exactly what to sign.
What is "missed-call text-back"?
When a call to your number goes unanswered — you're mid-blow-dry, the shop's closed — Nook instantly texts the caller a friendly note with your booking link. Clients book themselves; you see the whole exchange in the thread. You write the words.
Is texting clients legal? What about STOP?
Yes, when it's done properly, and Nook does it properly for you. Clients opt in when they book; every automated text respects quiet hours in your local time; STOP and START are honored instantly and automatically; HELP replies identify your shop. Your number is registered with US carriers for business texting (A2P 10DLC), which is what keeps your messages from being filtered as spam.
Can I change what the automatic texts and emails say?
Every one of them. Booking confirmations, reminders, the missed-call note, review asks, birthday notes, waitlist offers and payment links each have a text version and an email version you can edit under Settings → Templates, with a live preview and a "text me a test" button. Clients with an email address on file get both.
Booking & calendar
Do my clients need to download an app?
No. Clients book from a link (your bio, your Google profile, a text), get ordinary texts and emails, and pay through a secure link. Nothing to install.
Where does my booking page live?
At yourshop.trynook.ai from the moment you sign up. You can also drop a one-line snippet into your own website, and connect your own domain (like book.yourshop.com) — we issue the certificate automatically.
Does it sync with Google Calendar or Apple Calendar?
Google is two-way per team member: bookings appear in their Google Calendar, and personal events on that calendar block online booking so nobody gets double-booked. Apple, Outlook and everything else can subscribe to a live calendar feed.
How does the QuickFill waitlist work?
Clients who couldn't get the time they wanted join a waitlist. When a cancellation opens a matching slot, the next person in line gets a text with a one-tap claim link and a short window to grab it. If they don't, it moves to the next person. Fridays stay full without you lifting a finger.
Can I stop double-bookings?
They can't happen. Availability is calculated from each person's real hours, existing appointments, buffer time and synced calendars, and the booking itself is guarded at the database level — two clients can't claim the same slot even if they tap at the same second.
Will it use my shop's words?
Yes. Pick your shop type from sixty kinds — salons, barbershops, nail and lash studios, tattoo, massage, gyms, groomers, detailers, tutors, repair shops and more — and Nook talks about chairs and stylists, or bays and techs, or mats and instructors. You can change any term.
Payments
How do I get paid?
Through Stripe, straight to your bank account. Send a Text-to-Pay link from any conversation or appointment, take deposits at booking, or keep a card on file for no-show protection on the services you choose. You'll see every payment in the dashboard.
Are there processing fees?
Stripe's standard card-processing rate applies to each charge, plus a small platform fee that's shown before you enable payments. There is no monthly minimum and no terminal to rent. If you'd rather keep taking cash and cards your usual way, leave payments off — everything else works the same.
Can I charge for no-shows?
Yes, for services you mark as needing a card on file. Clients agree to your policy when they book; if they don't turn up, you decide whether to charge the fee with one tap. Nothing is charged automatically without you.
Team & access
Can my spouse or business partner have full access?
Yes. Invite them as a co-manager: everything the owner can do — settings, the number, templates, the team — except billing, the payout account and closing the business. You can also hand the whole business over to them later if you ever need to.
What can managers and staff see?
Managers run the day: services, hours, the team's schedules, templates and calendar sync. Staff see their own calendar and the shared inbox. Every team member gets a login at no extra cost.
Do I need special hardware?
No. Nook runs in the browser on the phones, tablets and laptops you already own. Add it to a home screen and it behaves like an app. There are no desk phones to rent and nothing to install at the shop.
Reviews & marketing
How does the review booster work?
An hour after a completed visit, the client gets a warm text (and email, if you like) with a link to your Google, Yelp or Facebook review page. Turn on the "how was it?" ask and unhappy clients are steered to a private conversation with you instead — you hear about a bad visit before the internet does.
What does the AI marketing help actually do?
Type a promo in plain words — "15% off balayage this Friday" — and Nook drafts a short vertical-video script, shot notes, captions and hashtags for TikTok, Instagram and Shorts. You edit, then publish to your connected accounts. It drafts; you decide.
Do Instagram and Messenger DMs come into the inbox?
Yes. Connect your Facebook page and Instagram account and their DMs thread into the same lobby as texts, so "any chance you have anything today?" never sits unanswered in a third app.
Your data & domain
Who owns my client data?
You do — always. Export clients, appointments and payments as CSV any time from the dashboard. If you leave, take a full export with you, and we delete your data on request.
Can I import clients from my old system?
Yes. Upload a CSV from a spreadsheet or your previous booking app; Nook de-duplicates by phone number and lets you merge the stragglers. Most shops are moved over in an afternoon.
Is my data secure?
Every shop's data is isolated from every other's, connections are encrypted end to end, passwords are hashed with a modern algorithm, calendar tokens are encrypted at rest, and we keep encrypted nightly backups. Sensitive actions are logged so you can see who did what.
Can I use my own domain?
Yes. Add book.yourshop.com (or the apex) under Settings → Domains, create the two DNS records we show you, and Nook verifies it and issues an HTTPS certificate automatically. Your trynook.ai address keeps working too.
Getting help
How do I get support?
Email hello@trynook.ai. A person replies, usually the same day. With your permission, our support team can look at your dashboard exactly as you see it to sort things out — and every action they take is recorded for you.
Will you help me set up?
Setup takes an afternoon on your own — services, hours, team, number — and the dashboard walks you through it. If you'd rather have a hand, say so in your first email and we'll get on a call and do it together.
