Bring your phone number

Keep the number your clients already know, or pick a new local one. Either way, texts and calls flow into one shared inbox.

Two ways to get a number

Porting your number

  1. Settings → Phone & texting → Port a number. Enter the number and your current carrier.
  2. We'll email you a Letter of Authorization to sign, and ask for a recent bill from your current carrier (the account number and address must match exactly — this is the number-one cause of delays).
  3. Keep paying your old carrier until the port completes; cancelling early can lose the number.
  4. Typical timing: mobile numbers 3–7 business days, landlines 1–3 weeks. Your old line keeps working until the switch, which happens in a few minutes on the day.
Don't cancel your old service before the port has completed. Once a number is released by the carrier it can be very hard to get back.

Forwarding calls

Calls to your Nook number ring wherever you set under Forwarding: a cell phone, the front-desk line, anywhere. Unanswered calls trigger the missed-call text-back automatically.

Business texting registration (A2P 10DLC)

US carriers require businesses to register before texting at volume; unregistered messages get filtered as spam. We register your number and your business as part of setup — we'll ask for your legal business name, EIN and address. Registration takes anywhere from a day to a few weeks depending on the carriers; conversational texting works while it's in progress.

While you wait

Everything else in Nook works without a number: booking page, calendar, client records, email confirmations. As soon as the number is live, texting switches on automatically.
