What you get
- Text-to-Pay — send a secure payment link from any conversation, visit or the Payments page.
- Deposits — collect part of the price when a client books online.
- Card on file & no-show fees — for the services you choose, clients agree to your policy at booking; you decide whether to charge.
- Money lands in your bank account. Nook never holds your funds.
Before you start
Have handy: your legal business name (or your own name if you're a sole proprietor), your EIN or SSN, your business address, a bank account and routing number, and a photo ID. Stripe needs these once; it takes about five minutes.
Connect your account
- In the dashboard, open Payments and tap Connect Stripe.
- You're handed to Stripe's onboarding. Sign in to an existing Stripe account or create one — either works.
- Fill in the business details, the bank account for payouts and the identity check. Stripe may ask for a document photo.
- When Stripe sends you back, the Payments page shows Charges enabled and Payouts enabled. If either says pending, Stripe is still reviewing; it usually clears within a day, and Stripe emails you if it needs anything.
Configure things in Stripe (optional but worth it)
Open dashboard.stripe.com:
- Payout schedule — Settings → Payouts. Daily, weekly or monthly; the first payout takes a few extra days.
- Statement descriptor — Settings → Public details. What clients see on their card statement; use your shop name so nobody disputes a charge they don't recognise.
- Receipts — Settings → Emails. Stripe can email clients a receipt for every successful payment.
- Tax — if you charge sales tax on services in your state, add it to your prices in Nook or enable Stripe Tax.
Send a payment link
- Payments → Request payment (or from a client's thread in the Inbox).
- Pick the client, enter the amount and a short description.
- The client gets a text with a secure link; when they pay, the row flips to succeeded and their history updates. The text itself is editable under Settings → Templates → Text-to-pay.
Deposits and no-show protection
Per service, under Settings → Services & prices: set a deposit to collect at booking, and tick Require card on file for services where a no-show really hurts. If someone doesn't turn up, mark the visit no-show from the calendar and you'll be offered the fee. Nothing is ever charged without you tapping the button.
Refunds
On Payments, tap Refund next to any successful payment. Refunds go back to the original card within 5–10 business days.
Fees
Stripe's standard card rate applies to each charge, plus a small platform fee that's shown before you enable payments. No monthly minimum, no terminal to rent. Prefer to keep taking cards your usual way? Leave Stripe unconnected — everything else works the same, and you can still record payments you take elsewhere.
